I recently decided to move my creaking Medion PC from Windows XP to the new Windows 7. I bought my computer in 2005 and it has been excellent for five years, but felt it was time for an upgrade.
So after backing everything up and a rather painless fresh install of Windows 7 I was all ready to re-install all my kep applications. One of these is of course Football Manager 2007. I have been a fan of this game since its release and feel it balances realism with fun which is lacking from the most recent versions.
So it was to my horror that when I popped the FM 2007 disc into the machine and started up the installer – it failed! A quick search on the Windows 7 compatibility and there is was in black and white. Football Manager 2007 was not compatible with Windows 7 – I was gutted. Years of games had been played and saved and my current Motherwell save where I had taken them to two SPL titles and the quarter finals of the Champions League would forever be consigned to the history books. I was not going to give up that easily.
It seemed the problem lay with the Java installer not working with the Windows 7 GUI. So with this in mind I decided it might be better to try and install the game via the command prompt. So I tried that and hey presto it worked. It did take a bit longer, but it 100% worked.
I now have FM 2007 working on Windows 7 32bit Professional with no problems. Here is a step by step guide on how I got this working.
- Go to the CMD interface on Windows 7 (Accesories, Command Prompt)
- Type: D: (“D:” is the drive of your CD- or DVD- where your FM07 disk is located – if this is not D:, use the correct drive letter, such as E:, F:, etc.).
- Press Enter/Return.
- The command prompt should now say: D:\>
- Type the following on one line in the command prompts, including all quotes: “Setup FM2007 PC.exe” -console
- Press Enter/Return.
- The installer should now launch, follow the instructions to install the game.
This goes through all the options of the installer and once complete you can then update the database if need be.
Please note I have not tested this on 64bit versions of Windows 7.

Oh Ok dont worry I got past that problem I just posted
But now I have encountered another problem. It gets to the bit where it asks ‘which type of installastion best suits your needs’ which i replied both ( two seperate attempts ) and nothing happened it just stopped, well its still there but nothing is happening. Really want this sorted now, as Ive come so far
Can you give me some more information on exactly whats going wrong please?
Yeah sorry about how brief it was. But I got it working eventually, it was just taking ages to load up ( i mean about 20mins ). But thanks everything is OK and i can continue to conquer europe as Chelsea once more thanks to you
Not like in real life sadley
Thanks a million mate,
James Gallimore
Right ok sorry to be a pain ( again ). But i was forced to reset my computer, so i had to uninstall everything including FM07. But I thought ‘no big deal, i’ll just redownload it’. So I did, I did it the same way ect. seemed fine. It said it had downloaded. But for some weird reason, it downloaded NHL Hockey manager 07 instead !? So ok thats incredibly strange. So i deleted it and tryed again same process and seemed fine untill it finished only this time, FM07 doesnt actually exist, i mean its not in any files or anything. I dont realli get it, I dont know if you can help but you never know, hopefully.
Thanks
